The soothing sounds of the waves and seagulls collided to wake me up as the sun illuminated my room. I looked out of the window as peace and tranquility filled my heart. The mountains, the water, the sky, the sun, the birds seems to be welcoming me to this lovely place. I told myself, “I can wake up to this every morning and the view will never get old.”
With this calmness, I dedicated my morning ritual to “being grateful.” Every breath, every pose and every thought was filled with gratitude. I knew that the next three days on this island will be filled with spiritual connections.
Got ready and went to the hotel restaurant for my breakfast. I was seated by the windows with the beautiful view of the harbor. The friendly hotel staff took good care of me. The Scottish porridge with fresh local thick cream was so yummy! As well as the fluffy omelet and scones.
I was excited to go on the “Isle of Skye day tour” with Skye Scenic Tour company. What I really enjoyed about this tour was the fact that the driver was super funny and it was a small group, lucky 13 to be precise. At the end of the tour, we got to know each other. The girls from Portugal and Hong Kong, the couple from Florida and the family from Montreal.
I had not done any research about what we will be doing or places we will be going. I just wanted this to be a big surprise so that I can experience every moment without any preconceptions. I’ve to say that it was the best £40 spent on this 8-hour tour. Renting a car and driving would have been too stressful. We passed so many international drivers who were scared as shit driving through the cliffs since the path was so narrow and they had no clue how to let the other car on the opposite lane pass by. Their reaction was priceless and I was happy to be enjoying the scenic ride rather than worrying about being thrown off the cliff.
We departed from Portree Somerled Square bus station at 9.30am.
Our first stop was for a quick photoshop at The Old Man of Storr viewing point. Hiking would take hours which was not part of our tour agenda today.
May be some other time I can do a solo hike to the top of the Storr.
Lealt Falls are majestic. You’ve to be there in person to experience it and the pictures can’t do them justice.
Kilt Rock, as the name implies, it resembles the back of a man’s pleated kilt.
The Quiraing is an artist mecca with lush green hilltops, windy roads and lakes. I could easily spend days here painting this beautiful landscape.
Fairy Glens has a fairy tale landscape. I am sure that must be the reason they filmed scenes with Michelle Pfeiffer for the movie Stardust here. Climbing to the top of the rock was an exhilarating experience.
Dunvegan beach
Dun beag Broch is an Iron Age stone tower that has still survived and is now home to the sheep’s who love to roam freely and shit everywhere, so be careful hiking up here.
Fairy Pools are a natural waterfall phenomenon, there are lot of mini pools and waterfalls in between rocks, and the vivid blues and greens of the pools suggest an unnatural origin. It is a highly visited area and risky to swim but still people jump into the frigid cold waterfall. Recently, an off duty cop died when he jumped and hit his head on the rock. As per my guide, everyday there is some form of accident that happen here. Even the terrain to hike up to these waterfalls is not fall proof.
Wow! What a wonderful day in Skye surrounded by amazing landscape. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Scotland’s Highlands whether you’re a fan if Outlanders or not. Who knows, you might even spot Jamie 🤷🏽♂️
